Written during a 40 degree heatwave in Siem Reap Cambodia
Cambodian New Year celebrations are in full effect and it’s great to see everyone enjoying themselves. My neighbours and I ventured out into the chaos last night to soak up the atmosphere and of course get absolutely drenched in the process. In case you don’t know, Khmer new year is essentially a city wide waterfight, it’s utter madness but it’s great fun too.
The temperatures are reaching forty degrees and man it drains my energy. Every day between 1pm and 3pm I suddenly feel exhausted and feel the need to laze in front of the fan drinking iced tea. It’s easy to forget just how hot it gets here during the summer, it kinda creeps up on you. Roll on rainy season.
Although I’m far better than I used to be with avoiding doom scrolling, there are times when I relapse. Youtube is typically the source of my brain rot and my new defence strategy is called NextDNS. This tool lets you block certain websites at a DNS level allowing me a large degree of control over what I can access on my phone simply by configuring Android’s built in Private DNS Setting.
Apps for blocking sites are available - ScreenZen is one I can recommend - but being able to build a blacklist of domains once and apply it to multiple devices is a better solution.
