Crazy neighbour Aussie Steve showed me the market stall where be buys his fresh coconut milk. The lady cracks a mature coconut, grates all the flesh, loads it into what looks like a giant meat grinder, and fresh coconut milk pours out. It’s a couple of bucks for a litre and holy shit it’s good.
You know how some foods are roughly the same when you get them fresh while others are a world apart? Like orange juice from a carton vs freshly squeezed, well fresh coconut milk is so much better than the pre packed stuff. A surprising amount better, and now I’ve tried it I’ve become a self confessed coconut milk snob from now on.
Started learning a new programming language, and this is a surprise after several months of taking a break from coding. Go is the new language I’m playing with, mainly because it can be compiled into multi-platform binaries.
I’m using ChatGPT to learn it and oh man it’s so much more convenient than the old way of learning. You used to have to read a bunch of books, watch tutorials, follow courses, it was a big deal and took a long time. But now it’s like I have a private tutor who answers any question and you’re free to choose your own route to acquiring the knowledge. I like this a lot. It’s a highly valuable tool for learning.
Couple of weeks back I quit watching Youtube and it had a noticeable positive effect on my life and so I’m going the whole month of May without it. Each time I give up Youtube (and I’ve given up several times previously) I realise that once it’s gone I don’t miss it at all. I just fill my day up with other stuff and most of the time that other stuff is more productive and beneficial than watching videos.
I don’t think it’s necessary to go tee-total on Youtube as there are plenty of excellent videos out there, but for now I’m on hiatus.
